Caring for the Planet

Our commitment to Sustainable Packaging

Our premise when founding our product was that what ever we do should be as sustainable as possible.

One of the most unsustainable products is the humble coffee pod. In Australia alone, it is estimated that 3,000,000 PER DAY  go to land fill - that is a staggering 1.095 BILLION per year. Most are plstic, some are aluminium and the bottom line is that only a tiny, tiny percentage are ever re-cycled due to their realy small size and the difficult in separating the components cost effectively.

Our pods do not need recycling !!

Place them in a council green bin and they're compost in 3-4 months

For our Coffee beans, you can choose different options for the bag, bag liner, zip closure and the coffee valve. Each option does come at a price premium. At ordering we let you choose how sustainable you wish to be by making a selectiion of packaging for yourself.

We have outlined the choices below.

Compostable PODS

Our newly developed 100% compostable* capsule has been awarded the certifications “OK Compost” and “OK Bio-based”, confirming the compostability*, not only of the material, but of all the constituents and components of the finish product (Capsule + coffee + lids + adhesive) in its final shape and thickness.

Green & Fair Coffee capsules are:

  • OK Bio-based and OK Compost certified Nespresso Compatible Capsule.

  • Made from Bio-based compostable polymer

  • Aluminium free

  • GMO free

  • Perfect result in cup thanks to a unique patented paper lid

  • Meets strict industrial compostability standards – Norm EN 13432, independently certified to break down in 12 weeks in industrial composting facility

  • Capsule + lid + coffee all compostable as a finished product

02

Standard Packaging

This is the industry standard which we offer in the interests of customers wishing to keep costs down. By default this is the standard packaging and does not add any extra pricing.

03

Re-Cycle - REDcycle programme

This is the next level of sustainability.

The bags are made with PET/PET/LLDPE with a matte varnish – this means the bags are made from Linear Low-Density Polyethylene and does not have a foil lining making them recyclable.

Recyclable in the RedCycle recycling program with collection bins located at most Coles and Woolworths supermarkets.

04

Fully Compostable

This is currently the most sustainable option - the bags contain no PLA, made from a combination of compostable films derived from sustainably-managed renewable resources.

Our Bags have been individually certified to the European and American compostability standards EN 13432 and ASTM6400, as well as the European and Australian home compostable standards: OK Compost Home (Europe) and AS5810 (Australia).

You can put your used  bags in your own home compost or worm farm, containing heat, water, oxygen, soil and micro-organisms. They can also be disposed of in a commercial composting facility ie Council green bin.

The bag breaks down into biomass, leaving no harmful residues.

The degassing valves we use for fresh roasted coffee are currently not compostable, but they can be easily peeled off the bags before composting.
